Answer: At Shaolin Wu-Yi Institute we offer martial arts classes for all ages, starting at age four. We have specialized programs for kids, teens, and adults of all ages, fitness and experience levels.
Do you offer any introductory trial or free class?
Answer: Yes! Shaolin Wu-Yi Institute offers a free trial class for all new students. This allows you to experience our class firsthand and see that our school is the best.
What martial arts styles do you teach?
Answer: At SWYI Martial Arts Plano, we teach Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi, MMA & Submission Grappling. Our instructors are highly experienced and certified in their respective disciplines.

What should I wear to my first martial arts class?
nswer: Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for a full range of motion. We recommend shorts, sweatpants or yoga pants and a t-shirt or athletic attire.
Do you provide martial arts uniforms?
Answer: Yes, we offer uniforms for purchase at the school.
What are your martial arts class schedules and pricing in Plano, TX?
Answer: You can find our current class schedule and pricing information on our website under the “schedule” and “membership” tab. We offer a variety of class times to fit busy schedules.
What is your cancellation policy?
Answer: Two weeks written notice. We understand that life happens, and we strive to be flexible with our students’ schedules.
How do I register for classes?
Answer: You can register for classes by visiting our school during business hours. We can also answer any questions you may have in person.
Do you offer any family discounts?
Answer: Yes, we offer discounts for families who enroll multiple members in our classes. Our family discount options are shown on our membership page
Do I need any prior martial arts experience to join?
Answer: No prior experience is necessary! Our classes are designed for all levels, so whether you’re starting out or have some experience, you’ll find the class is perfect to enhance your skills and learn at your own pace.
Are there any enrollment fees or contracts?
Answer: No, we do not use contracts and there are no enrollment or registration fees.
Do you participate in competitions?
Answer: Yes, but it is not required. Shaolin Wu-Yi Institute participates in local, regional, and national martial arts competitions. While competition is not required, we support and prepare interested students to represent our school and test their skills in a competitive environment. Our students have earned Grand Champion awards in all areas of Chinese Martial Arts as well as Gold Medal victory in all combat sports including MMA, Submission Grappling, Sparring, Push Hands and San Da Kickboxing.
What are the class sizes and instructor to student ration?
Answer: we offer an extensive schedule of classes so that each class maintains a small student to teacher ratio for optimal martial arts training.
What are the benefits of learning Kung Fu at the Shaolin Wu-Yi Institute.
Answer: We truly cover all aspects of martial arts as well as all ages so there is a training option for everyone including Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu forms & 18-Traditional Weapons, Wooden Dummy, Yang style Tai Chi Chuan & Qigong meditation, sparring & push hands as well as modern Mixed Martial Arts, MMA and Submission Grappling as well as Yoga for strength, balance and recovery.

Answer: Travis Alschbach is the Sifu & Head Coach at SWYI Martial Arts and teaches the majority of classes with the support of the professional coaching staff. Travis is a seasoned martial arts professional. With over 35 years of martial arts training and over a decade of experience as a Dallas Police Officer he brings real-world self-defense expertise to the curriculum. As a traditional Kung Fu and Tai Chi Master, he has trained countless Grand Champions and coached numerous fighters to gold-medal victory in MMA and Submission Grappling. Additionally, his qualifications as an expert in Qigong and Yoga further enhance the holistic approach to martial arts training. Having trained in both the USA and Taiwan, Sifu Alschbach offers comprehensive experience that covers all aspects of martial arts.
